NDB Act 2018 Notifiable Data Breaches Act 2018.

The new Act introduced in Australia in 2017, and taking effect on February 22nd 2018, has large implications for businesses earning over $3 million per year.

Everyone involved knows the big issue of data breaches within companies. Sadly, it is a problem on the rise which also effects individuals and their privacy, and sometimes their financial well-being.

The Australian Privacy and Information Commissioner has the authority to begin an investigation into a company at any time, regardless of whether a complaint has been received.

If you take a moment to think what this could mean to a companies reputation, and their ability to make profits and maintain integrity, it’s clear that in 2018 strict operating procedures and policies need to be established, revisited, re-documented, and even re-designed in some cases.

Some companies still suffer from poor storage choices of hard copy information related to individuals. These larger companies face severe penalties and disciplinary action if information is lost or stolen.

Cloud based storage and security is paramount in tackling some of the new expectations. It also allows for on-going improvements, as it is flexible and allows for updates to operations effectively.
