PRODUCTIVITY = LACK OF TEAM FRICTION

Productivity is often mistaken for when people “seem” to be busy.

Seeming busy and being productive are entirely different in the workplace. Seeming busy is an impression usually caused by a daily build-up of habits and interactions that in effect turn the work flow into work friction.

Work friction is the erosion of productivity and effectiveness between employees because of factors such as “unclear agendas and outcomes” “poor time management” and clarification of tasks. (Urgent / not Urgent etc.).

The organisations policies and procedures should be tailored to avoid these issues by establishing “Productivity Principles” covering everything from convening meetings, conduct of meetings; e.g. Signalling the closure of meetings, ten minutes prior to enable last minute contributions and agreed actions to be stated clearly.

A team that develops their own “Productivity Principles “which they follow each time they communicate, congregate and collaborate” cannot help but be more productive.

Teams or divisions of an organisation are the equivalent of regiments in an army in that success is the objective and success will be achieved through coordination and discipline as well as the agility to adapt to changing circumstances.

Procedure Rock is the perfect tool for the implementation of Productivity Principles as not only do policies and procedures become apparent to all, the agility to amend, update and acknowledge is present always.
